Running a Scan

Start a scan, watch progress, cancel if needed.

Running a Scan

A scan analyzes your source folders and flags files that will cause problems during migration. You have to run one before every migration — CloudMove enforces this.

Prerequisites

Before Start Scan is enabled, the project needs:

  • At least one source folder
  • A destination configured (either single or multi-destination)
  • An active agent

If any of these are missing, the button is disabled with a tooltip explaining what's needed.

Start

In the project Scan step, click Start Scan.

The agent picks up the signal on its next heartbeat (so up to 30 seconds) and begins walking the source folders. You'll see a live progress bar showing files processed and current path.

How long it takes

Scans are fast — the agent is only reading metadata, not opening file contents. Rough guidance:

  • 10k files: a few seconds
  • 100k files: under a minute
  • 1M+ files: several minutes; variable depending on disk speed

If you're on a slow file share or a spinning disk with deep nesting, expect the high end.

Cancelling

Click Cancel Scan at any time.

The agent stops on the next heartbeat. Partial results aren't saved — you'll need to start a fresh scan when you're ready.
